SHAZAM

 SHAZAM

Shazam is a music identification service that everyone has pretty much heard of, if not used. It has a simple interface that's easy to pick up, and the auto shazam feature is nice since it automatically identifies all songs for you, even if the app is in the background.

For those moments when you hear music and want to know what song you're hearing and who plays it, shazam can help. The music recognition app has been helping people identify songs since 2002.

Shazam revealed what actually happens when you tap to shazam: First, shazam creates a digital fingerprint of the audio picked up from your devices microphone. Then, it matches the digital fingerprint to a database containing millions of music tracks and TV shows. Once it finds a match , shazam displays the name of the song and artist or TV show, plus additional information like lyrics, sharing options, and more..

The company has a library of more than 8 million songs, and it has devised a technique to break down each track into a simple numeric signature- a code that is unique to each track. If you think the service hasn't matched the right song, tap the overflow menu when on the song details screen, then choose the option labelled with the text "wrong song? Tell shazam" from the popup menu. To confirm that you'd like to report a song to shazam, tap report.
